Darwish @ Sunway Medical Center

Tuesday, 15/6/2010, Awish ada appointment dgn ENT specialist kat Sunway Medical Center.

Reason we make this appointment because Darwish kerap bagitau telinga dia sakit. Lepas tu makin kerap suruh kita cakap kuat-kuat dgn dia.

Masa dia 5 tahun, result from BAER / ABR hearing test @ SJMC menunjukkan 20-30% of hearing loss due to existance of water/liquid behind his ear drum.

Lepas test tu the ENT specialist did mention some option on how to fix it, by draining the liquid, then put a grommet into his eardrum.

He also warned us about potential infection and we should ensure that takde air dari luar masuk for a minimum of 2 month...NO swimming or main air masa mandi.

At 5 years, mmg agak payah utk kami kawal/ pantau, dan nak bg darwish faham. So we decided to go for Speech Theraphy je dulu.

Now, he is 7 years old. Attending primary school yg satu kelas ada 40 orang student. 3 bulan pertama Darwish duduk depan sekali, kat tengah2 kelas, tapi lepas susunan semula, Darwish kena masuk kelas lain dan duduk belakang. I don't think he can hear clearly what the teachers is teaching in front of the class.

So we decide to get back to the specialist but from Sunmed pulak. Just to get 2nd opinion dan tengok how bad his hearing now.

The Audiologist, giving instruction. Kali ni no need to do BAER sbb Darwish dah faham arahan so tak payah put him to sleep. Just audiogram biasa saja.

Lepas habis test lebih kurang 15 minit, result pun keluar.

The ENT Specialist, Dr Khoay, informed that Darwish hearing getting worse. 50% loss. Bukan moderate dah ni. So he mentioned the same procedure can be done, that's mean drain the liquid and plant a grommet into his ears.

He also mentioned that the eardrum dah a bit deformed due to the liquid pressure, it might get worse day by day. Somehow the Doc managed to convince me that, its a very fast and simple procedure, and I don't have to worry about infection. He can play with water except swimming.

If there's any infection, it can be easily treated dgn mengambil oral antibiotic je.

He can arrange the procedure to be done on 16/6 or 17/6. But I have to confirm within 3 hours if i want to do it on 16/6 and within 24hours if i want it on 17/6.

So we went home, called Ayah, cerita everything from A to Z. Dilema jugak sbb nak balik Pontian on 16/6 tu. Darwish yg dah beriya nak balik kampung. Nak jumpa Kakak Limah, sepupu dia, kubur Atuk, dan jumpa mak tok.

Since operation tu sekejap, admission for half day je, so we decided to do it on Wed tu 16/6. Lagipun Darwish ada Prudential Medical Card, so no need to worry about the bills or the trouble getting a GL from PMCare (ayahnye kompeni insurance) which tak sure cover or not.

At 7.30am dah admitted kat DayCare Center Sun Med. No big problem kecuali Darwish kelaparan. Kena puasa from 12 midnite. But last dia makan was around 8pm. Sian dia. Macam-macam excuse mama bagi utk dia tahan lapar tu. Pukul 7.45am dia dah ready.

Mama pun kena pakai baju doktor. Ni tengah que utk masuk Operation Theatre. Ramai jugak patient. Awish masuk pukul 9am. Lepas dia tidur (bius), mama kena tunggu kat luar.

Immediately after sedar, Darwish mamai lagi. Suruh dia tidur balik. Bila sampai bilik daycare tu(30minit lepas operation) dia dah segar bugar. Mintak bukak baju hospital, nak pakai baju dia.

Mama tinggalkan kejap nak pergi kafe belikan nasi lemak dan milo ais. Sampai kat bilik, nurse dah bg minum air. So mama pun cepat2 bg dia makan breakfast tu.

By 11.30 ayah pun sampai, terus discharge, pergi kafe lagi sekali, ayah n darwish makan lagi, then ambik ubat and balik.

Petang tu jugak balik Pontian...
